WIC

WIC is an acronym that stands for Women, Infants, and Children, a federal program aimed at providing nutritional assistance to pregnant women, mothers, and children up to 5 years of age.

Every month, participants in this program receive vouchers to purchase healthy foods such as milk, eggs, fruits, and others.

Among the requirements to receive WIC benefits are pregnancy and breastfeeding up to the baby’s first birthday. Additionally, if a woman is within six months of ending her pregnancy or has given birth within the last six months, she can also apply.

It is possible to apply for your children, but they need to be under 5 years of age. Besides that, it’s also necessary for your income, health, or place of residence to meet the requirements specified by the program.

Food assistance for children

There are more than one child food assistance programs, including The National School Lunch Program, The School Breakfast Program, and The Special Milk Program.

Programs for older adults

The United States government also has programs for individuals aged 60 and older. In this case, there are two types of programs, the Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).

The SFMNP provides vouchers for the purchase of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey at farmer’s markets or community farms.

On the other hand, the CSFP assists the elderly with a monthly package of nutritious food, distributed through agencies for participants or their caregivers to pick up. However, in some states, these packages are delivered to participants.
